Our Story

How We Began

Founded in 2010 by Kim Lee, Imani Orphan Care is a registered Canadian charity based in Abbotsford, BC, Canada that provides orphaned and vulnerable children in Kenya, East Africa with care, food, clean water, shelter, clothing, hygiene items, love, medical care, and educational opportunities.

Before visiting Kenya for the first time in June of 2010, God spoke to Kim about working with and helping orphaned and vulnerable children in the world. At night, Kim would dream of children pulling at her and she felt a real sense of urgency to help. These dreams did not stop until she traveled to Kenya to see what God had in store for her.

During her initial trip, Kim visited the Mombasa area (the 2nd largest city in Kenya, situated on Kenya’s coast) where she visited many orphanages, as well as areas north and south of the city. Kim knew God had something special in store for her, but nothing could have prepared her for the great need she witnessed. Kim knew she was exactly where God wanted her to be but she still had a hard time handling what she saw.

After returning home from Kenya in July 2010, Kim was filled with an undeniable passion to help the defenseless children she had been blessed to meet on her trip. And so, the Imani Orphan Care Foundation was born and a great story began.

Today

While the vision that God gave Kim for this ministry is big, Kim remains faithful and obedient in moving forward with the foundation and watching it grow. Kim is, quite simply, a regular person and a mother of two boys. She is not one for the spotlight, yet she humbly puts herself there to give the children of Kenya a voice. Kim is so thankful that she said “yes” to God, as so much could have been lost if she had said “no”.

God has grown Imani Orphan Care Foundation since the very start and He continues to bless this ministry. Kim is so thankful that she gets to experience such love for the many incredible kids that God has placed into her life.

Our Purpose and Core Values

Imani Orphan Care began in 2010 to give parentless and vulnerable children a home, a family, love, and hope. Our goal is to transform the lives of thousands of children and future generations by giving them the education and care they need to enhance their lives and grow into successful adults.
